Thursday Happy Hour – 19th January 2012

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with two jackpots allocated to races at Sandown Park & Angle Park. The Happy Hour kicks off at 6.11pm and finishes at 6.41pm.

MD7 – 6.11pm – Mixed 4/5 (715m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $30k

ATELIER (8) is a handy stayer that won here 2 starts back in a quick time of 42.06 from the 6 box. He should race in a forward position and looks to be the hardest to beat. DOUBLE JEOPARDY (7) finished runner up to ATELIER 3 starts back and at his run prior he was successful over this journey. He will definitely figure in the finish of this if he is able to jump on the bunny. ROBERT ANDREW (3) is a quality stayer and can never be underestimated in a race like this. He won over the 650m trip at Warrnambool last start so he comes into this in solid form so it may be wise to include him for the win in wider bets. DOUBLE CHAMP (5) is awkwardly drawn but he is strong at the business end of the race so expect to see him rattling home into the placings. The rest of the field is rather even so try and include the field for 4th.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: ATELIER (8) & DOUBLE JEOPARDY (7)

The WA bred KALDEN AURORA (3) was the fastest qualifier last week and with a repeat of her 29.82 run where she led all of the way will see her go very close in this. She has gone quicker in the past so if she does happen to lead clearly she could prove hard to rundown. GOOSEBUMPS (2) is very classy and loves an inside box draw. She ran KALDEN AURORA within 0.75 lengths last week so with a better jump she could easily hold her out on the first corner this week. JOKEN KIHAEL (4) has been in good form of late but he is going to need his best jump to cross those on his inside. Include him as a winning chance in longer quartet bets. MIDGET FARRELLY (9) gains a start tonight due to the scratching of the one dog. He is unlikely to win this however from this perfect box draw he can certainly push for a place. The rest of the field is very open and it would be wise to include the field in a flexi bet for 3rd and 4th if possible.

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with two jackpots allocated to races at Sandown Park & Angle Park. The Happy Hour kicks off at 5.52pm and finishes at 6.41pm.

MD6 – 5.52pm – Grade 5 Final (515m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $30k

GORDON BALE (7) showed plenty of early speed last week to lead all the way in a quick time of 29.65. He enjoys racing from wide boxes so expect him to be very hard to beat in this. NOVA VITE (2) is another greyhound that has plenty of early speed and she was equally as impressive winning her heat last week in a time of 29.67. Definitely look at including her for the win also. BIG STUD (1) is very well drawn down on the rail and he has not missed a top 3 finish from his last 8 starts. He looks like a great anchor choice in this. KENNY POWERS (4) has been in form winning his last 2 starts, he has solid early speed and if he is able to race up on the speed he could prove to be a value booster for the quartet dividend. Include AUTOAMERICAN (5), SELECT GODDESS (6) & MALVADO (8) for the place in the back end of the quartet as they are all capable of running on strongly.

KALDEN MAYHEM (1) is easily the quickest greyhound in the field but he can have issues especially if he drifts too far back from the bunny early on. He does however have the red box tonight and if gets a sight of the bunny early on he should prove to be too strong for these. PINTS DELIGHT (8) is suited by the wide box draw. He has had 5 exits from this box for 4 wins so definitely keep him very safe. The classy POINT TWO OVER (5) always gives his all and he will be finishing strongly. He is worth including as a knockout winner in wider bets. The next best apart from the above mentioned three appear to be HENRY MALLET (2) who is well drawn and JOHNNY WILL (7) who has been unlucky at his past 2 starts. The rest of the field on paper appear to be making up the numbers.

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with two jackpots allocated to races at Sandown Park & Hobart. The Happy Hour kicks off at 5.52pm and finishes at 6.25pm.

MD6 – 5.52pm – Grade 5 Final (595m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $30k

COUSIN CALLUM (1) ran a nice race at his track debut last week finishing second in his heat after he jumped from box 5. The move into the red box looks like a great chance for him to go one better tonight. QUEEN OF CYPRUS (5) was the fastest of the heat winners and if she repeats her time of 34.49 she will be very hard to beat. She will however need a bit of lady luck from the squeeze box. HELLA GOOD (4) is a powerful finisher of his races and judging by last week’s win where he came home from 7th position it would be wise to show him respect and keep him very safe. These 3 runners appear to be the best chances on paper however the final is very open so play as wide as possible in flexi bets as all of these are capable of figuring prominently in the finish with the right run.

BERGERMEISTER (8) is the track record holder and his record at this track is a mighty 9 wins from 11 starts. He should get plenty of room to wind up in this and could easily take it out. REWIND (5) has not started since his narrow defeat in the final of the Hobart Thousand and if he can bring that sort of form to this race then he will be expected to win this. PENNY’S ANGEL (1) is well drawn on the rail and if the favourites that are drawn worse than him slip up he will be there ready to pounce on this race. Keep safe for the win in wide bets. Again this is a very open race behind the main fancies so look to play as wide as possible behind the above mentioned 3 greyhounds in flexi quartets.

MD6 – 5.52pm – Grade 5 Final (715m) – approx $5,000

DOUBLE JEOPARDY (1) was impressive last week leading throughout from this box winning in a time of 42.27. He will be fitter for his first run over this trip and will be looking to repeat the dose tonight. ADELLE BALE (2) is only tiny but she packed plenty of punches last week winning her heat in a BON time of 41.97. She will get a good sit from this box and will be hard to holdout. MISS VIXEN (7) has plenty of early speed which should see her race in a forward position. She has a good record here over this trip so consider using her as a place anchor in the quartet. CRAFTY LADY (8) was the third of the heat winners last week has been flying of late and she has to be shown plenty of respect. She will however require a bit of luck from this box draw against these. These 4 greyhounds are the main players with perhaps ATELIER (6) & PINK BANDANNA (3) being the next best chances to fill a back end placing in the quartet.

IRMA BALE (2) was the fastest qualifier running 29.44 last week when she was able to lead all of the way. With that sort of dominant display last week she will be mighty hard to beat if she repeats it tonight. STETSON DONNA (3) will be looking to continue her impressive start to her career. She has won 5 in a row and will be looking to make it a half dozen in this. If she can track the greyhound out drawn on her inside then she will be right up there in the finish. The red box has gone to DYNA DARA (1) who used it smartly last week when winning her heat in a slower time of 29.91 but she did show plenty of strength and certainly looks to be a great place chance tonight. The greyhounds drawn out wide in boxes 6,7 & 8 all have ability but are going to have to rely on luck. Include them for the place as a win is unlikely.

Thursday Happy Hour – 22nd December 2011

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with three jackpots allocated to races at Sandown Park, Angle Park & Albion Park. The Happy Hour kicks off at 6.13pm and finishes at 6.52pm.

MD7 – 6.13pm – Group 2 Laurels Classic Semi #4 (515m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $30k

SHE AIN’T LATE (8) is having her first start from the pink box but with the way she is jumping there is no reason to suggest that she cannot lead all of the way again tonight. Last week she went 29.74 and the week prior she went 29.66 so she is certainly quick enough to take this out. The Graeme Bate trained IRMA BALE (2) will get back in this but from this good rails draw expect to see her finishing this race off powerfully when it matters. Her recent Horsham wins suggest that this race is not beyond her. CHILLY BABE (1) was a surprise winner last week but she has come up with the red box this week and as a result should be shown plenty of respect. HANIFY’S HEROINE (3) is a speedy beginner and if she is able to find the front she could prove to be a tricky one to rundown. Definitely look to include her in wide bets for the win. The rest of the field is rather open with perhaps CHIC SHIRAZ (5) appearing to be the only runner that may struggle to be competitive in this.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

AD8– 6.41pm – XMAS Sprint (515m) – approx $5,000

KALDEN MAYHEM (1) will be well fancied in this race from his favourable box draw but he will need to rely on plenty of luck due to his tendency to begin slowly. If he gets a clear run at them on the back straight then he should prove to be way to strong. KALDEN AURORA (4) is resuming from a spell after falling at her last start but her form prior was top notch and if she is mentally right she could easily make this a winning return. GOOSEBUMPS (5) returned to her best form winning in a time of 29.79 last week and if she gets a bit of luck from this tricky draw then she can certainly figure in the finish. Both WHERE’S PANCHO (2) & RAWSONS REASON (3) have been in solid form of late and are both drawn well. Both can win this with the right runs so try and keep them safe for the win in wide quartet options. The greyhounds drawn out in boxes 6,7 & 8 will have their work cut out for them so look to include them in the back end of the quartet for a place only.

BOGIE KING (1) returns to QLD after making the final of the Christmas Gift down at Wentworth Park and he has come up with the sort of box draw that should see him mighty hard to beat. ISO OCTANE (7) just keeps on winning here and he shapes as the main rival to BOGIE KING. He has won 12 from 14 on the track so despite this wide box he has to be included for the win. MERCY RULE (2) has placed at her last couple of starts and from this suitable inside box draw she will certainly be pushing for a spot high up in the placings. CITI HAWK (6) has also been ultra consistent of late and even from this wide draw he has to be shown plenty of respect both as an each way winning chance and definitely as a place chance. Play wide in the back end of the quartet and introduce the field for 4th.

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with four jackpots allocated to races at Hobart, Angle Park & Sandown Park. The Happy Hour kicks off at 6.05pm and finishes at 6.55pm.

OD6 – 6.05pm – Bob Brown Memorial (461m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $35k

LIKA WHISPER (1) did everything that he could last week but he found the star chaser DYNA TRON too quick but his effort to run second to that chaser was top notch. He will take a power of beating in this race tonight. I’M A FENCER (4) is very strong and if he gets a bit of early room to wind up he should have a big say in the finish of this race. He will be near full fitness now so definitely show him plenty of respect. PORTRAIT IGNITES (5) has been running some quick times of late ad her effort when runner up to DYNA BERT last week was top class. She can certainly be winning this race even from the difficult squeeze box. Both PENNY’S ANGEL (2) & INNISFREE MISS (6) some next into the equation, whilst a win may be a bit of a surprise they both need to be shown plenty of respect high up in the placings. Certainly play wide in the back end of the quartet as on paper only MEGASTAR SPARGO (7) appears the only greyhound in the field that may struggle.

The classy POINT TWO OVER (2) is well drawn down here near the fence and if he can muster a bit more early speed he could quite easily prove to be too strong for these. He should get a good passage to the fence with a speedy beginner drawn on his inside. EMMA’S GIFT (1) has been using his early speed to his advantage of late winning his last 2 starts. He has gone 29.96 in the past and if he runs up to that sort of time he will be very hard to rundown. These 2 well drawn greyhounds certainly hold the key to this race. The rest of the field behind them is very open. The wide drawn greyhounds FULL EMBARGO (6), BUCKARINGA LAD (7) & EVACUATION (8) appear to be the most likely to be pushing for the placings in front of those greyhound drawn in the middle boxes.

Tassie has certainly put on a great final of their time honoured Hobart Thousand this year. The race looks to be a clash between the local track record holder BERGERMEISTER (1) & the Melbourne Cup winner DYNA TRON (2). BERGERMEISTER did not set the time clock on fire last week winning in a time of 26.05 but he did what he had to do and that was win his heat. He has a best time here of 25.71 so if he runs up to that time he could easily take this out for Tasmania. The favourite and hardest to beat however will be DYNA TRON. He continued his fantastic recent form with an effortless heat win in a fast time of 25.78. He has the early speed to dominate this race and lead all of the way. His litter brother DYNA BERT (6) was also very impressive last week winning his heat in 25.85. He will have no trouble handling this wide box draw so he must also be respected as an each way chance. REWIND (7) is another dangerous chaser that went very nicely running 25.78 last week but that effort was from the much better red box. He is very experienced down here so with the right run he could prove to be a knockout winner. The all conquering Graeme Bate kennel is represented by DAVID BALE (8) who had the red box when winning his heat last week. His time of 26.23 was nothing special but from out here he should get room to wind up so definitely respect his place chances. The locals drawn in boxes 3,4 & 5 are all probably going to struggle to win this final but all should be included in the back end of the quartet.

LEELICIOUS (8) has only won 2 races but those 2 wins were here in the times of 29.70 & 29.41. She did it from box 7 last week so with another quick jump the pink box should not worry her tonight. PROVEN IMPALA (1) has not set this track on fire yet but she has been impressive at The Meadows winning her past 2 races in a row there. She has plenty of early speed also so it would not surprise to see her lead all of the way. SET TO TALK (2) is well drawn also and she has a quick 29.49 win to her credit here. She should be able to track well into this race so definitely include her as a value winning chance. HANIFY’S HEROINE (7) is another speedy beginner that could cross these and run a cheeky race on the speed. Whilst perhaps not a winning chance she must be included high up in the placings. The rest of the field is very open so play wide in the back end of the quartet.

Est pool $35k

DYNA TRON (7) is absolutely flying at the moment and despite getting rundown late in the final of the Brisbane Cup last start he should be able to dominate these. He is very quick out and from this wide box draw he will get plenty of room to wind up and win. The smart Tasmanian LIKA WHISPER (1) has won 5 from 6 here and even though he disappointed last start he should be respected and will be up there battling it out for a place. He can get a bit wide though so keep this in mind. The Queenslander COAL KING (6) has shown plenty of potential and he would not have been sent down here if they do not think that he will be competitive. He could get a good run across with the favourite so definitely include him for a place. Both ALLEN LAWSON (5) & LORINGO (8) look to be the next best and it would be wise to include these 2 runners in the back end of the quartet.

SPRING SPECIAL (1) was very impressive winning here last week from this very box in a quick time of 29.41. She has the box draw to do it again tonight but she does face a steep rise in class. The speedy beginner ZIPPSTAR (4) will be looking to lead this race and with a railer drawn on his inside he may get a nice cart into the race. He is capable of running good times so definitely keep him safe for the win in this. The strong DYNA MORRIS (5) is going to need a bit of luck from this tough box draw but if he is able to get a good run in behind the speed he could finish over the top of them. WHERE’S DEMONICA (6) has not been finding much luck of late but from out here in this field she could prove to be a potential knockout chance. Try to keep her safe in wide novelties. Both CROSSFARNOGUE (2) & BLOSS’S BENSON (3) are getting on in years but from their inside box draws they are both more than capable of popping up in the back end of the quartet.

The smart Graeme Bate runner DAVID BALE (1) has been in fine form of late running quick times in Victoria and from this perfect box draw despite having his first start down here he should just be winning this. In what is not an overall strong heat the local chaser WANDY NEG (8) appears to be the most likely to push the favourite in the one box. He has won 4 from 6 here and must be respected. The other Victorian chaser MISS ROMAN NOSE (3) is a very quick beginner and she has raced here in the past at the beginning of her career winning an impressive 4 from 4 at this track. She could prove to be the knockout winner if she finds the early lead and there is trouble behind her. Beyond these 3 it is very open and playing the field would be a wise option.

DAMEK (1) was upset last week when he could not get across from a wide draw but tonight from the cherry he looks set to bounce back. His record here is sensational and he should be winning this. MOJITO (8) was another runner that could not get cross from out wide in the same race and despite drawing wide again tonight this is a different field and he looks more likely to be able to cross tonight. Definitely keep him safe for the win in wide quartets. Both PLACE YOUR BET (3) & CENTENNIAL BARK (7) have good records here and need to be included high up in the placings. ISO OCTANE (4) loves this track and now that he has 3 runs under his belt after resuming from a spell he looks set to bring up another win. Last week he ran a top second behind RADLEY BALE in a Cup heat. BOGIE KING (8) continues to run consistently but at his last 4 starts he has run second on each occasion. He has the tough pink box to contend with but he is all class and he will be up there pushing for the victory in this. METZ MAGIC (6) is another classy greyhound that has a wide box draw to contend with but judging by last week’s nice third in a cup heat he looks set to run another big race tonight. MATILDA’S CHARM (1) is no slouch and with the bonus of drawing the red box she should be respected as a potential knockout winner in this over her more credentialed rivals. STACK ‘EM FLAT (2) could be dangerous in this, he has resumed well from a long spell winning nicely at The Meadows and Sandown recently. He has raced here before and with a decent jump he could surprise a few of these. The overall strength of this race is strong so play as wide as possible in a flexi.

The box draw in any major final in vitally important but when the inform Melbourne Cup winner comes up with the red box the result could have already been determined. DYNA TRON (1) should be able to ping out from down here and lead and it will be his race to lose. The inform NSW chaser SPRING GUN (2) is also drawn well in the 2 box and if anyone can put the pressure on the favourite it will be him. He actually went quicker than DYNA TRON last week so definitely respect his winning chances also. The freakish BEKIM BALE (5) has the tough squeeze box to contend with in this but if he gets a little bit of luck and is close to them turning for home he could get himself into the photo. Both RADLEY BALE (6) & HE KNOWS UNO (7) are going to have their work cut out for them in this from their respective box draws. Whilst they are unlikely to be winning this both should be kept safe for the placings. Out of the 3 local hopes GLEN GALLON (3) & RADICAL DOS (4) have the best chances of pushing for a back end place but they will be rather rough and will require some local luck.

Winner: DYNA TRON (1)

Thursday Happy Hour – 24th November 2011

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with three jackpots allocated to races at Hobart, Albion Park & Angle Park. The Happy Hour kicks off at 6.05pm and finishes at 6.41pm. Keep an eye out for WA chaser VOCAL ENFORCER in the third heat of the Brisbane Cup at 6.28pm.

OD6 – 6.05pm – Gold Cup Final (461m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $35k

The Tassie champ DAMEK (6) won again last week and he will be well fancied to repeat the dose this week. If he does win he will bring up win number 20 at Hobart from only his 24th start. He will not have it all his way however as plenty of pressure will be coming from LIKA WHISPER (1) & COMPACTO (2). Both of these greyhounds are unbeaten at the track and with their superior box draws could easily upset the champ. The 2 greyhounds drawn out wide MOJITO (7) & PLACE YOUR BET (8) are very talented also and if for some reason the inside division crowds up then they could get the run across and prove to be knockout winners. Definitely keep them safe in wide quartets. The rest of the field is very even and playing the field for 4th would be advisable.

The flying NSW chaser SPRING GUN (4) has been on fire at Wentworth Park culminating with his victory in the Group 1 Vic Peters Final. He has been running quick times and if handles this track first up he will be mighty hard to beat. The local chasers are best represented by METZ MAGIC (3) & RADICAL DOS (8). Both will have local knowledge to their advantage however both will have their work cut out for them. Maybe placings will be their most likely results tonight. WA is represented by VOCAL ENFORCER (6) who is fresh off his Group 2 All Stars victory. He is going to need a bit of luck from out here but he is very tenacious and could easily play a part in the finish. Respect must also be given to TONNELI BALE (7) & GABLE DRUM (1) who are both very dangerous on their nights and should be kept very safe.

This is a high quality FTA race with numerous winning hopes and potential scenarios of how the race will be run. WHERE’S PANCHO (4) has been back to his best winning his last 2 starts by dictating from the front. He has the pace to do the same tonight. LED ZEPLIN (2) is speedy early also and if he finds a clear lead then he is the sort of runner that could prove to be a knockout winner in this. RAWSON REASON (3) will need a bit of luck going into the first corner but if he gets it like he did last week then he is more than capable of going back to back in this line-up. There is plenty of class drawn out wide with all the runners drawn boxes 5 outwards being a little slow out of the lids however they are all capable of finishing this race off powerfully. The inside division will not want to crowd up because if they do this race could have the potential of turning into a race for the strong dogs. Play wide and cover these 2 options.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: WHERE’S PANCHO (4)

Each Way: RAWSON REASON (3)

Knockout: LED ZEPLIN (2) & boxes 5 – 8

Thursday Happy Hour – 17th November 2011

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with three jackpots allocated to races at Sandown Park. The Happy Hour kicks off at 5.58pm and finishes at 6.57pm with the running of the Group 1 Melbourne Cup Final.

MD6 – 5.58pm – Group 1 Bold Trease Final (715m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $40k

BLING IT ON (1) has come up trumps with the box draw and from his 8 exits from the red he has won 6 times and placed second on the other 2 occasions. As a result he is a must to be considered for the win in this tough final. GRANDUER (5) was the quickest qualifier winning his heat in a time of 41.84 but that effort was from box 1. The move out to the squeeze box is not ideal but he is very smart so definitely include him for the win still. ECHELON (3) has won his last 2 on end here both in solid times and with his good mustering speed he should be prominent early on. He is another one of the main winning chances in this open final. SLICK LEE (6) has a great record here over this trip. From his 11 starts he has finished in the top 3 in 10 of them. He has to be included as a place chance on the back of that record. Both ZIPPING MALFOY (4) & ZIPPING LAD (7) have good early speed that could see them race in the forward division of this race. They will have their work cut out for them to win but they should be respected for a placing in the back end of the quartet.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: BLING IT ON (1), GRANDUER (5) & ECHELON (3)

DYNA BERT (1) has the box draw to be very hard to beat in this. He finished 1 length behind BEKIM BALE in a time of 29.34 last week and if he runs up to that sort of time in this he will be very hard to rundown. RADLEY BALE (6) has been on fire over the past few weeks and despite drawing a bit difficultly tonight he will be finishing this race off powerfully and should be up there in the finish. REWIND (7) is another runner that will need a bit of luck from the wide box draw but so far from his 6 starts here he is yet to miss the money so he should be respected. DAVID BALE (2) is a very strong chaser that will appreciate the inside box draw. He placed in 29.40 last week and with clear running he could run over the top of these. AMAKLER GIRL (8) has plenty of early speed and from this box she could easily cross this field. The only question mark will be her strength and at this stage a placing looks to be her best result.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: DYNA BERT (1) & RADLEY BALE (6)

Knockout Chance: DAVID BALE (2)

MD8– 6.57pm – Group 1 Melbourne Cup Final (515m) – approx $8,000

Box draws are so important in these big races and the $200,000 to the winner Melbourne Cup does not come any bigger. SHEREEN BALE (1) has drawn the converted red box and judging by her effort last week when leading throughout in a time of 29.37 she will have a massive chance of winning this. The fastest greyhound in the field is BEKIM BALE (4) who holds the track record here of an amazing 28.96. He may need a bit of luck in the early stages but if he gets it the others had better watch out. With so much early speed in this final if the speedsters all get in each other’s way there is one greyhound that will be looking to take advantage of this. That greyhound is NUMERO UNO BALE (2) who is very much suited by the rails draw. He is super strong when it matters so definitely find room for him for a place at least. Both ALLEN ELROY (6) & DYNA TRON (7) have good early speed out of the boxes but both face a big task to lead these clearly. Obviously if either of these 2 quality greyhounds were able to do so then they could easily lead this all of the way but luck will have to be on their side. The only non Wheeler owned greyhound in the field is ENRY WALT (3). He loves racing here but he will feel that he has the weight of the world on his shoulders in this. Whilst he is better suited out wide he should not be forgotten in this especially for a place. Both BALA BALE (5) & DYNA MORRIS (8) will have their work cut out for them from their respective box draws and on paper it would be surprising to see them having any real influence in this final.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: SHEREEN BALE (1) & BEKIM BALE (4)

Each Way: NUMERO UNO BALE (2)

Knockout Chances: ALLEN ELROY (6) & DYNA TRON (7)

Best Place Chance: ENRY WALT (3)

Remote Place Chances: BALA BALE (5) & DYNA MORRIS (8)
