THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR – 02 September 2010

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with four jackpots allocated to races at Albion Park, Angle Park, Sandown Park and Hobart. The Happy Hour starts at 6.25pm and finishes at 7.44pm.

BD6 – 6.25pm – Mixed 3/4 (520m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $25k

The class in this race comes from MR. METZ (2) and going on his recent Group 3 Townsville Cup victory he looks primed to take this race out. The inside draw should see him able to bounce on the bunny and if he does he will be very hard to run down. HANIFY’S LEGEND (1) has the top draw and he should be able to get a great rails run in this. He is quick enough to win this but with the class of MR. METZ in the race perhaps a placing is more likely. Another handy greyhound is BOOT STRINGS (7) but she will require a little luck from the wide draw. She also has a fantastic record at the track where from 14 starts here she has won 9 times and been placed a further 3 times. Whilst she might struggle to beat those on her inside tonight she is a must inclusion into the quartet. These 3 are the standout players and the rest of the field is rather open behind them.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winner: MR. METZ (2)

Each Way: HANIFY’S LEGEND (1)

Place Anchor: BOOT STRINGS (7)

AD5 – 6.38pm – Mixed 4/5 (600m) – approx $5,000

ASTON ZIP (8) will be trying to bring up win number 4 in a row tonight and the main hurdle that he will have to overcome is the wide box draw. At his last start he was able to stay wide before getting down to the rail and he kept finding in the straight to hold them off. With a repeat effort he will be hard to beat in this. Plenty of early speed will come from EVERLASTING LUV (7) and she will be one of the main chances to find the lead. She almost hung on last week and she appears set to run another top race tonight. CADMAN BALE (1) is a strong run on type that will be suited by the red box tonight. He will require luck to get through the field but he has every chance to find it from down here. FASTA THAN FITZY (5) has only had the one start over the 600m trip here and that was on Saturday night where he bounced straight on the bunny from the red box and ran away with a quick victory. It will not be as easy in this especially from the yellow box but going by his debut run he must be respected. A good place chance in this is EMERLEY CHARMER (3), her recent form has been good over the sprint trip and she has been placed over the 600m before so she is definitely worth including.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: ASTON ZIP (8) & EVERLASTING LUV (7)

Each Way: CADMAN BALE (1)

Place Chances: FASTA THAN FITZY (5) & EMERLEY CHARMER (3)

The key to this race appears to be in the hands of the inside division of greyhounds. BEE GEE MAC (1) has the speed to lead these and he usually grows a leg from the red box. Last start he won well at The Meadows and he should be suited in this and could easily lead all of the way. CARA BALE (3) is highly talented and with a better jump tonight she could land on the bunny and give plenty of cheek. From her 4 starts at this journey here she has won once and been placed twice so her experience might see her through. These 2 look to be the 2 winning chances and taking them for first and second is the way to go, the rest of the field is rather even with perhaps NELLY BALE (6) & ZOEY BALE (10) rating a little higher than the rest, NELLY BALE due to her good early speed & ZOEY BALE due to the good inside box draw.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: BEE GEE MAC (1) & CARA BALE (3)

Place Chances: NELLY BALE (6) & ZOEY BALE (10)

We see the return of the Happy Jackpot queen SULTAN’S SWING (2) who in July managed to win 6 races in a row here at Hobart in top grade races. She proved to be a top win anchor for skinny quartet players during that period. Whilst her win streak was recently broken in the heats of the National Sprint Championship at Launceston she will look to bounce back here at her favourite track and bring up win number 7 in a row at the track. WHISPERING BLAZE (1) has the box draw to be prominent in this and he is very rarely out of the finish in the races that he contests here. From his 16 starts here he has won 7 times and been placed twice. The classy HIGH CHOICE (8) can never be discounted in her races, she can win from anywhere and the wide draw will not concern her as she will get plenty of opportunity to wind up. REGENT TYPHOON (4) resumed from a break last week and was ultra impressive winning a Grade 3 race in a handy 26.26. He is a quick greyhound on his night and despite the class rise he has to be respected as a knockout chance in this. BUZZIN’ (7) is drawn a little wide but he also has the necessary class to compete against this quality of opposition. He is no stranger to finishing second behind SULTAN’S SWING and he will be trying his best to turn the tables around.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winner: SULTAN’S SWING (2)

Each Way: HIGH CHOICE (8) & REGENT TYPHOON (4)

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR – 26 August 2010

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with four jackpots allocated to races at Albion Park, Hobart and Sandown Park. The Happy Hour starts at 6.25pm and finishes at 7.25pm.

BD6 – 6.25pm – Mixed 4/5 (600m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $30k

Up and coming QLD staying star BELAIR PRINCE (4) should be very much suited in this race. From his 5 starts here over this distance he has won twice and finished second twice. His run 2 starts back here was enormous when he got smashed everywhere he went but still managed to finish second. With a bit more luck he should be able to finish over the top of them. CARLINFORD FROST (1) was the greyhound that beat BELAIR PRINCE on that occasion and he has got the perfect draw tonight, he should be able to rail up and a top four finish is almost a monty for him.  FALCON FLASH (8) has drawn a box that should suit his running style and he must not be forgotten in the main fancies of this race. He is in top form and at his last start at Lismore over the 635m trip he won well in good time. FIE FIE (6) has a tough draw to negotiate but she is a good run on type that often fills a place in the back end of the quartets so including her will be wise in the placings. With DASHING TOP HAT (9) getting a start from box 3 he is certainly more than capable of running a cheeky race, his form is not super at the moment but he is worth including as a long odds chance in this. Playing a wide flexi in this opening leg is certainly on the cards.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winner: BELAIR PRINCE (4)

Each Way: CARLINFORD FROST (1) & FALCON FLASH (8)

Place Hopes: FIE FIE (6) & DASHING TOP HAT (9)

Star sprinter DAMEK (3) rugs up tonight in what should be a lay down misere for him. From his 12 Tasmanian starts he has won 11 of them and his only failure, if you can call it one, was last week in the Tasmanian National Sprint final where he finished second by 0.25 lengths behind TOMESTONE JACK. He will provide quartet players with the best win anchor of the night in this. Best place chance behind the favourite is MUSHY PEAS (1), he has had 2 starts here for a win and a second and from the red box he should be able to get a top run. The whole field is rather open behind these 2 and playing the field is a good option for third and fourth, but for the skinny quartet players perhaps the likes of ELITE STRIKE (2) & PROVEN OCTANE (7) are the ones to play ahead of the others.

WHERE’S HANNIBAL (3) has been an incredibly consistent greyhound of late winning at 6 of his last 8 starts including a couple of quartet happy hour races at good each way odds. Tonight he will be one of the favourites and he should be right up there again in the finish of this. ZAMBOLA BALE (5) won well last week in a Grade 5 final race and if she jumps like she did last week she will definitely be up there challenging these despite the rise in class. Drawn out wide GIBBSY ON FIRE (8) has started his career off very brightly and from his 5 starts here he has won twice and finished second the other 3 times. It will not be easy against these but he is going too well not to respect. From the good rails draw BARRACOUTA (1) should be able to rail up and from 6 starts in the box he is yet to finish out of the placings, even though this is a strong field he looks like a great anchor for a place or at worst fourth.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

ST. PIERRE (1) has started his Tasmanian career off well and 2 starts back at his only Hobart start he won easily in a good time of 26.30. This race is a little harder than that but he should be able to improve being drawn on the fence and win number 2 in the Apple Isle is likely. BAMM ALAM (5) surprised at good each way odds last week when winning from this box in a time of 26.32. She has gone quicker than that in the past and her PB of 26.07 is actually the quickest of the field. It might be wise to follow her this week whilst she is in form. KORONGAH GEM (7) has been in good form for some time now and it will not surprise to see her in the finish despite the wide box draw. Drawn on her outside is REBEL PATCH (8) and he is another chance that could use the spacious Hobart track to advantage, he has been placed at his last 3 starts here and the box will suit as he can run a little wide in his races. Playing the field for fourth in a flexi would be wise as this is a fairly open affair to end the happy hour with.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: ST. PIERRE (1) & BAMM ALAM (5)

Each Way: KORONGAH GEM (7)

Best Place Hope: REBEL PATCH (8)

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR – 19 August 2010

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with three jackpots allocated to races at Angle Park and Dapto. The Happy Hour starts a little later tonight at 6.58pm and finishes up at 7.41pm. This week the Happy Hour highlights are the SA National Distance and Sprint Finals.

AD6 – 6.58pm – National Distance (SA) Final (731m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $30k

The controversial Distance series culminates tonight and the super classy SATANIC CASH (8) couldn’t be better placed to win and represent his state in the Group 1 final. His record at the track is impeccable and from his 11 starts over this trip he has won 9 times and finished second on the 2 occasions. The bonus of his favourite box just ads further salt into the wounds of the others that will be chasing his tail. The next best greyhound is ELLA FAIR (2) who finished 12 lengths behind SATANIC CASH in her heat. She is in top form over this journey and looks a perfect anchor for the place. TAFARI BALE (6) will get back and run on from this box draw as he did in the no race last week where he finished a number of lengths behind the winner HANNAH’S JINX. He has been one of SA’s better stayers for some time now and it would be fitting for him to run a place again tonight. These three greyhounds are easily the 3 main players and the whole field could finish in the fourth spot of the quartet with perhaps SOPHINA BALE (1) standing out for those wanting to play this quartet really skinny.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winner: SATANIC CASH (8)

Best Place Anchor: ELLA FAIR (2)

Next Best: TAFARI BALE (6)

AD6 – The Best of the “Happy Hour” Jackpots

Skinny Quartet Option

Last week’s collect: $0

8 – 2,6 – 2,6 – Field                          $60 for 600%

Wide Quartet Option

Last week’s collect: $0

8 – 2,6 – 1,2,6 – Field                      $60 for 300%

SD6 – 7.14pm – Oaks Final (520m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $25k

This is a nice Oaks final and track experience at Dapto will prove to be important. The classiest greyhound of the field is FANCY MANDY (8). She appeared a little flat last week but she was first up after almost 2 months off and if she has trained on well from that run she is easily the quickest of this field. MORE SPACE (1) is drawn well on the fence and she can hold the lead on the first turn and prove very hard to run down. She has a good record here and it would not surprise to see her land the win. The other heat winner CERTAIN MAGIC (6) was very impressive last week and she also has the necessary early speed to be up near the lead early on, if she can sit second or third she also has the strength at the business end to be running over the top of them. REGAL CHLOE (4) and LIZZIE TAYLOR (7) both look like they will be safe chances to run on into the placings especially if they repeat their solid efforts that they showed last week in the heats. The whole field is capable of finishing in the fourth spot so playing the field in a flexi would be a wise option.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: FANCY MANDY (8) & MORE SPACE (1)

Each Way: CERTAIN MAGIC (6)

Best Place Chances: REGAL CHLOE (4) & LIZZIE TAYLOR (7)

AD8 – 7.41pm – National Sprint (SA) Final (515m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $30k

Winning form is good form and there are a number of greyhounds coming into this competitive final with winning streaks. BOOZEROO (2) has really hit her straps and she will be looking to bring up win number 8 in a row tonight. Last week she began well but was headed in the middle stages before running away with a 29.63 victory. A similar run is expected tonight and the inside draw will suit her. Drawn on her immediate outside is the speedy beginner TOMIC (3) who tends to get off the rail slightly in his races and it might be just the break that the likes of BOOZEROO will need to see the bunny in the middle stages of the race. He is however quick enough to lead these all of the way and he also ran 29.63 in his heat win last week. WHERE’S PANCHO (4) will be looking to bring up win number 6 in a row and he was also ultra impressive leading all of the way in his heat. With so much speed going into the first corner he could be the one to cross the inside division. HAYDEE RAY (1) should be able to rail up nicely behind the speedsters on his outside and from the great draw a placing in the back end of the quartet is certainly on the cards. These 4 greyhounds have the inside draws and appear to be the best chances to win but this final is very open and it would not surprise to see any of the greyhounds drawn out wide finish in the placings also.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: BOOZEROO (2), TOMIC (3) & WHERE’S PANCHO (4)

Best Place Anchor: HAYDEE RAY (1)

Other Places Hopes: The Field

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR – 12 August 2010

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with four jackpots allocated to races at Angle Park, Sandown Park and Albion Park. The Happy Hour starts at 6.38pm and finishes up at 7.35pm. This week the Happy Hour highlights are the State Sprint Finals from Qld and Vic.

AD5 – 6.38pm – National Distance (Sa) Heat #2 (731m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $30k

The night kicks off with what will end up being the one out special of the night in SATANIC CASH (3). He owns the 731m races at Angle Park at the moment and only injury can stop him from winning this. Play him to win only with all the confidence in the world. ELLA FAIR (7) is the most credentialed runner over this trip other than the favourite and podium finish looks to be a certainty. She has raced 11 times over the half mile for 4 wins and 6 placings. SLEDGE (4) has some solid experience over this trip also and he is never far away from the third and fourth end of the prize. Including him in the back end of the quartet would be wise. Making her debut over this distance is SOPHINA BALE (6) and her form over the 600m journeys suggests that she will get the extra trip. She is in good form and could add some value to the dividend if she runs the race out. The only other 2 greyhounds with place credentials are the book ends TEXAS TIGER (1) and VILLOPOTO (8).

MD6 – 6.52pm – FFA (515m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $30k

The very classy FLASH OF LIGHT (6) had no luck at all in her heat last week and she will be much better suited tonight in this. She can win from out wide and with a decent jump she will run away with this leading all of the way or if she finds early trouble she can also win from the rear as she is as strong as an ox. ENRY WALT (7) is also suited from the draw and he will look to track the six dog into the race. He got out in front last week and careered away to a big victory in good time. This race is harder but he has the class to feature prominently. The big question mark in this race is posed by DENTAX BALE (1). He has not raced much at all lately but when at his best he is as quick as they come. If he is over his injury concerns he is a must inclusion into the winning chances especially from this top draw. These 3 greyhounds are the best winning chances of the race and behind them the rest are an even bunch, with perhaps ARVO’S FLORENCE (8) and C’EST LA VIE (2) slightly standing out from the pack. ARVO’S FLORENCE will get back early but has the ability to run home very strongly into the back end of the quartet and C’EST LA VIE likes Sandown and usually races up on the speed.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: FLASH OF LIGHT (6) & ENRY WALT (7)

Question Mark: DENTAX BALE (1)

Best Place Chances: ARVO’S FLORENCE (8) & C’EST LA VIE (2)

Last week’s quickest qualifier MR. PRIZZ (2) is racing in fantastic form and is perfectly boxed down near the rail. He is the only greyhound in the field breaking 30 seconds at the moment and with another pinging effort from the boxes he should be able to run away with the bickies. The youngster of the field FRANKLIN STYLE (2) has started his career off in super fashion and at the Albion Park circuit he has raced 13 times for 9 wins and 2 seconds. His record and tenacious chasing ability is too huge to leave out of calculations despite this tough final. HAPPY CLOWN (8) chased home FRANKLIN STYLE last start and he is much better suited this week out here in the pink. He is very consistent and it will not surprise to see him battling out the placings. MY AMIGO (1) has come up with the perfect box and he could be the one to pinch it if the others do things wrong at box rise. 3 starts back he won from box 2 in 30.04 and he will not be leaving the rail in this and he has to be well fancied to be either causing an upset or definitely finishing in the top 4. AZAKHAN (4) and BLAZING CHAOS (7) are a couple of greyhounds to include in the back end of the quartet as value run on types.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

OCTANE SHOW (8) has come up with one of his favourite boxes and he has the smarts to use it in this tough final. He was the quickest qualifier last week when running a quick 29.66 from this same box where he circled them out wide. A repeat effort will see him in the money.  Drawn at the opposite end of the boxes is RADLEY BALE (1), he put in a big effort in his heat to finish a fast finishing second and from the top box draw he is a massive chance to cause a boil over at nice each way odds. The early speed in this race should come from ARSONIST (4). She is often faultless from the boxes and she more than likely will be giving the others something to chase out on the back straight, the only question with her is whether or not she will be able to absorb the pressure from the very strong greyhounds chasing her. Pressure that will in particular be coming from the likes of COSMIC PLANET (2) and COSMIC CHIEF (3). Both of these litter brothers represent the other main chances of this final with both of them expected to feature prominently in the photo finish.  With the scratching of DEE WINTER the very speedy beginner MID LEVELS (9) comes into box 5. He has the potential to cause a few of these some dramas early as he could easily ping to the lead and hang in there for most of the way. He is unlikely to win but he can add some value to the placings.

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR – 5 August 2010

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with four jackpots allocated to races at Albion Park, Sandown Park and Hobart. The Happy Hour starts at 6.44pm and finishes up at 7.44pm.

 BD7 – 6.44pm – National Sprint (Qld) Heat #2 (520m) – approx $5,000

Est pool $30k

Fresh from his Group 2 Dapto Megastar victory Mr. METZ (8) will once again be looking to ping the lids and give his rivals no chance to run him down. The box draw is not ideal but with his early electrifying speed he can offset it and carve across to the early lead. There are plenty of worthy challenges in this strong heat headlined by HAPPY CLOWN (4). He is chasing in tremendous form and has a great record here and it would be wise to include him in the winning hopes. With such an even field assembled the box draw is important and the very classy LATE SHOW LEE (1) has come up trumps drawing the red box. He is the highest graded greyhound in the field and can really motor around the Albion Park circuit. From this draw he is a must inclusion for top three in this heat. FRANKLIN STYLE (2) is at the opposite end of the grade ladder then LATE SHOW LEE but he is chasing too well to overlook. So far from his 15 start career he has won 10 times and been placed a further 3 times. With stats like this it would not be wise to leave him out despite the rise in class tonight. Another greyhound with a massive chance is VELOCITY REGINA (7). She has not raced for a month but she is very speedy early on her night and can easily lead this field. From her 17 starts at this track and distance she has won 9 times and been runner up on 6 occasions. These 5 greyhounds appear to be the main players in this opening jackpot and playing wide around them is the best way to go.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Each Way Hopes: MR. METZ (8), HAPPY CLOWN (4) & VELOCITY REGINA (7)

Best Place Chances: LATE SHOW LEE (1) & FRANKLIN STYLE (2)

ISO OCTANE (1) is super speedy when all is on song and after a short break he will be chomping at the bit for this. The added bonus of box 1 could be the difference for him and a runaway victory would not surprise in this. DYNA FORTE (5) is a classy greyhound coming back from more than a holiday to Darwin where he finished second in the Group 3 Darwin Cup. The wider the draw the better for this consistent chaser and if he has taken no ill effects from the travel he should be somewhere in the top four of this heat. With the very speedy ISO OCTANE drawn in the red, REV LIMITER (2) should be able to get a good run down onto the rail. He does his best work from the inside draws and it would not be a surprise to see him feature prominently in this. COSMIC PLANET (4) is a very strong greyhound who should also get a good run in this despite being boxed in the middle of the field. He is in fantastic form and has an uncanny knack of finding himself on the podium. Drawn out wide OUR TOYMAN (7) and MANUEL BALE (8) will struggle to win this race but they both have the ability to register a placing at long odds, so finding room for them in the quartet would be wise.

The very fast MID LEVELS (8) will be looking to spear across to the lead using his electrifying early speed. He has run 29.58 in the past here which is easiest the quickest of the field and with a repeat he will be very hard to beat. The enigmatic HEATHER’S TIGER (4) can run with the best of them when she jumps well but consistency is not one of her strong points. If she anticipates the lids opening tonight she can easily win this and she should be at good each way odds.  COSMIC CHIEF (1) has come up trumps with the box draw and he should be able to show his best from down there. He is chasing in stellar form at the moment and it is hard to see him missing the top 4 tonight. The talented ZAMBOLA BALE (7) is always a danger in her races and if she has handled the travel back from Darwin where she was disappointing 6th in the Final of the Darwin Cup she is a must inclusion in the back end of the quartet. AZZAN BALE (2) and WHISPERING EYE (3) are both good chances to fill a drum at good odds in this especially with their good inside draws.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Last week the question was can anyone stop SULTAN’S SWING (3) from winning 5 in a row? This week we ask the same question except replace the 5 with 6 in a row. Her form is super and even after a poor beginning last week she still mustered through to dispose of a very good line up. Everything points to her doing it again. Perhaps her biggest test will come from FISHERMAN (2). His last win back in June was from this draw at this track in a flying 26.09 so with a repeat of that run he will certainly be challenging the favourite. MERCURY MORRIS (8) finished third behind SULTAN’S SWING 2 starts back from this draw and his overall record here of 10 starts for 5 wins and 3 placings suggests that he will once again be up there, he should be able to keep out of trouble from out wide on the spacious Hobart track. These 3 greyhounds are the standouts in this field and between them look to have the quinella all bottled up. Behind them it is a case of the field for third and fourth as they can all play apart in the quartet with the right run.

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR – 29 July 2010

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with four jackpots allocated to races at Albion Park, Hobart, Dapto & Sandown Park. The Happy Hour starts at 6.44pm and finishes up at 7.35pm. The main feature of the night is the Group 2 Megastar Final at Dapto.

BD7 – 6.44pm – Mixed 4/5 (600m) – approx $5,000
Est pool $25k
BOOT STRINGS (1) is shooting for 4 wins in a row tonight and from the perfect box draw she should be able to do so. Her last 2 wins over this trip have been super and this race is no harder, it looks like it will be her shout in the first happy hour race of the night. SURFING MADAM (4) has a great record of 4 starts over the 600m here for 2 wins and 1 third. She will be better suited in this race after her last start failure from box 6. Her form prior to that run was top notch and she certainly rates as a strong chance to take this race out. The get back run on greyhound THAT’S TWITCHY (3) is well drawn near the rail and he will certainly be finishing the race off with enormous strides. Definitely include him as a place chance in this. TIZZA TOKEN (5) struggles to win at this venue but he does know how to run a place. His recent runs have been over the 710m trip so he will be strong over the concluding stages of this. The rest of the field is very even and playing wide behind the above mentioned greyhounds is the way to go.

Winner: BOOT STRINGS (1)
Each Way: SURFING MADAM (4)
Best Place Chances: THAT’S TWITCHY (3) & TIZZA TOKEN (5)

Can anything stop SULTAN’S SWING (1) from bringing up win number 5 in a row tonight? That is the question that the other 7 runners will be asking. She has been disposing of quality fields with ease and with the red box there is no reason why she won’t again. The quality chaser EAGLE EYE (2) is the most experienced runner of the field and the best credentialed to challenge the one dog. He is all class and he looks to be the quinella greyhound in this. RONRAY BOMBER (8) is perfectly drawn and is a great place anchor to work the quartet around. Despite not having the best record at the track he will be thereabouts from out there and could add some great value to the dividend. KORONGAH GEM (3) and BUZZIN’ (5) will struggle to trouble the more fancied runners but they certainly represent great chances to fill the minor end of the quartet.

The box draw in big races like this is ultra important and the speedy beginner ELITE BLUE SIZE (2) should be able to bounce onto the bunny from this draw. He has not raced at the track but has trialled very well there and if he gets the early lead it is likely that he will run away with the win. The super talented MR. METZ (5) is on the comeback trail and if he can find the form that saw him win his Maiden here in a flying 29.66 he could cut across this field and give them wind burn. Two very strong greyhounds FLASH OF LIGHT (1) and FEDEX (3) are both drawn well and should be finishing off the race with great gusto. Both are making their track debuts but they are classy conveyances and despite this lack of local experience they can easily win this. Another 2 classy greyhounds that have not come up with the best boxes are TUIAKI (6) and SNOZZ (7). Both will struggle to win this race with the calibre of runners drawn better on their inside but they both represent massive place chances.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Drawn super down on the rail WHITE ARROW (1) will be very hard to beat in this. She has already won 16 out of her 34 starts including a perfect 2 from 2 from the red box. She is definitely the testing material. WHERE’S HANNIBAL (3) won last week’s jackpot race and he is a major chance to continue his winning ways despite the rise in grade tonight. He is unlikely to lead but he is strong enough to sit just off the early speed and come into the equation at the business end of the race. Another greyhound that will be looking to finish the race off well is MANUEL BALE (4). He does not win very often but in a race like this he is almost a place certainty. Two greyhounds with plenty of early speed that must be respected as knockout chances are MISS FLUFFY (7) and FULL NOISE (8). Both obviously have the wide draws to contend with but they can both fly the lids on their night and easily carve across the field and give the others something to chase, it would be wise to include the pair of them in the minors.

Winners: WHITE ARROW (1) & WHERE’S HANNIBAL (3)
Place Anchor: MANUEL BALE (4)
Best Place Chances: MISS FLUFFY (7) & FULL NOISE (8)

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR – 22 July 2010

Tonight sees an abbreviated Quartet Happy Hour with three jackpots allocated to races at Sandown Park, Dapto and Angle Park starting at 6.52pm.

MD6 – 6.52pm – Grade 5 FINAL (515m) – $5,003

Est pool $30k

The Happy Hour kicks off with a very competitive Grade 5 Final where all of the greyhounds have good recent form, with only KILRUSH (5) not having a recent win to his credit. The early speed battle will be crucial here and on early sectionals there is very little difference between any of the field, except that the runners wearing blue, yellow and green may have a half length or so on the others. With such an even bunch engaged it will be wise to look at the box draw and when in doubt the red box is the best option. COOPER BALE (1) has a super record from the inside and from this box he has won 4 times and finished runner up twice from his 7 jumps. Last week he hugged the rail all of the way around, thus avoiding trouble to finish up as the second quickest qualifier, so with a similar run expect to see him in the top couple. Another greyhound likely to settle just behind the early speed is WHERE’S HANNIBAL (3) and he is more than capable of breaking the 30 seconds here again after doing so at his last 2 starts. He has won 3 out of his last 4 and he could easily get that charmed rails run that will put him right into the race. Plenty of respect must be given to the fastest qualifier HEATHER’S TIGER (6). She ran a super 29.64 when leading throughout from box 3 last week; however the wide draw might just be her downfall tonight as she has never won from outside of box 5. Other greyhounds with a decent chance are BLUERAY GIRL (4) and SHINTARO SAMURAI (2). BLUERAY GIRL will have to come out humming and find an untroubled lead to be a winning chance, but did jump the quickest of this field last week when going 5.16 early. SHINTARO SAMURAI will have to avoid early trouble as he is not the quickest beginner, but appears to be one of the better finishers here. Both are solid place hopes in this. The field for fourth is a must for wider players in what is a tough opening to the Happy Hour.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: COOPER BALE (1), HEATHER’S TIGER (6) & WHERE’S HANNIBAL (3)

Chance at Odds: BLUERAY GIRL (4)

Place Anchor: SHINTARO SAMURAI (2)

Dapto returns to the Happy Hour tonight and what a super race they have put on here for quartet players. This is a prelude to next week’s Group 2 Megastar Final with the first three placegetters tonight qualifying for the final, so taking note of this week’s form will be a huge advantage next week. Drawn out wide is the classy REPEATED (7) who will be looking to repeat his back to back Dapto wins that he registered back in June. His form is still top notch, the box draw isn’t against him and the experience at the track will put him in good stead to take this tough race home. The speedy beginner CERTAIN MAGIC (1) is well drawn in the red and she certainly has the smarts to win this, especially with the scratching of the other speedy beginner GRETA BALE. CERTAIN MAGIC has had the one run here for the one win, so expect to see her railing out in front for a long way in this. The draw has not helped the classy SNOZZ (6) in this top race, but he is too good not to consider as a winning proposition. He has won his last 3 starts, but is second-up after a couple of months off the track and will need luck to be on his side tonight. SEEK AND DESTROY (8) and GRIPEN BALE (9) are both strong place anchors here. They will struggle to get warm early on but they will be finishing the race off powerfully. Whilst it is somewhat unlikely they could pinch a win, they are must inclusions for the placings in quartets. It is also hard to leave the Derby winner GOLD CLAIMER (2) entirely out of calculations. He will more than likely find a few of these too classy, but with his local experience he may be able to run a place at nice odds to bolster the dividend.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: CERTAIN MAGIC (1) & REPEATED (7)

Each Way: SNOZZ (6)

Best Place Chances: SEEK AND DESTROY (8) & GRIPEN BALE (9)

AD8 – 7.41pm – Grade 5 FINAL (515m) – $5,001

Est pool $30k

The Happy Hour finishes on another even field where a case can be made for almost all of the runners. The very impressive heat winner DIGITAL SPEED (5) has not come up with a good box for this final, but with a repeat of the tenacity she showed last week she is a huge chance to register her fourth win in a row. Plenty is expected from the quick beginner EVERLASTING LUV (2). She was squeezed early on last week before battling along nicely to finish a good second. With a super slow beginner on her inside in this final and the draw advantage over the other quick beginners, she might get to the early lead and be very hard to run down. That slow beginner on her inside is the freight train finisher SPRINGVALE COOPS (1), who can never be discounted in his races. The rails draw suits and it will be wise not to leave him out of winning calculations. In fact, from his 8 starts from this box he has not been out of the top four, even though he does like to use a bit of the track in running. ULYSSES (3) and MAD MAGIC (4) were both very impressive when winning their respective heats last week; however they will both require some luck here. Including them for a place, and maybe for the win in wider quartets, may help punters collect a nice dividend. Whilst NIRIMBA KNIGHT (8) may struggle to win here, he could disrupt the more fancied types and fill a placing again after not missing a drum in his last 7 starts. His early speed could quite easily see him in a prominent position early and he is more than capable of hanging onto third or fourth spot. Making the job even harder for punters here is the fact that three greyhounds ULYSSES (3), DIGITAL SPEED (5) and MR. MAVROSS (6) all ran new PB’s last week. There is no doubt punters should play as wide a flexi as possible here, which could see them return a handy profit.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Each Way Hopes: EVERLASTING LUV (2), SPRINGVALE COOPS (1) & DIGITAL SPEED (5)

Best Place Chances: MAD MAGIC (4) & ULYSSES (3)

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR – 15 July 2010

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with four jackpots allocated to races at Albion Park, Angle Park and Sandown Park this week. The Happy Hour starts at 6.44pm and finishes up on the major feature event of the night – the Group 2 McKenna Memorial Final at 7.35pm.

BD7 – 6.44pm – Best 8 (710m) – $5,000

Est pool $30k

We kick off the night with a short priced favourite that only bad luck can stop. The 710m track record holder DASHING CORSAIR (1) meets a field that he should gobble up and still have time for seconds. What more do we have to say other than DASHING CORSAIR, box 1, easy race, therefore include him one-out up front in quartets. The field behind the champ is fairly open with most of them being capable of beating each other depending on the sort of run they get. SATURN ASSASSIN (2) has the form and the draw to slightly stand out from the rest of them and with a repeat of his last two runs here he will fill a placing for sure and certain. Youngster TIZZA TOKEN (8) appears to be a solid stayer in the making and at his debut over the trip last week he finished 3.50 lengths behind SATURN ASSASSIN. Natural improvement should see him run a better race tonight and if he can get across from the pink box he will be challenging for the minors. The very consistent GOLD SONATA (6) is never far away in this type of race and even though she is not a winning proposition, she is an absolute must inclusion for the placings. Including the field for fourth is an option for those looking for a wider result, but skinny players should concentrate on the consistent LADY TYCOON (4) and the recent improver ACE ZACE (3).

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winner: DASHING CORSAIR (1)

Best Place Chances: SATURN ASSASSIN (2), LADY TYCOON (4)

Other Place Chances: TIZZA TOKEN (8) & GOLD SONATA (6)

WA-owned middle distance star KAY SIZE (3) is second-up at the track and distance and he should improve plenty after his solid third at his debut run behind the classy FLASH OF LIGHT. With a better jump from this inside draw expect to see him battling out the early lead and with clear running he could easily win this. The big danger will come from the seasoned stayer JARVIS BALE (1). He was also having his debut over this distance last week and after a slow beginning he recovered well to finish off the race powerfully. From the rails draw he is a huge chance. Plenty is expected from the most inexperienced runner of the field, PINK BANDANNA (5). She has talent and has already won 5 of her 10 career starts including once here in 34.45, but she meets some seasoned types in this and also has the squeeze box to contend with, hence she must be some risk here. NELLY BALE (6) is one of the better place chances here, but can be a little hard to find on her night. Both reserves gain starts here with ALLEN CHANG (10 from 2) bringing some early pace into the race for his first middle distance start, however including him for the minors looks the best option. DYNA JAYDEN (9 from 4) has been consistent without troubling the judge too often over the longer trips; however she does run on OK and should be included for the minors too. BLOSS’ BURRA (8) is a good finisher with good recent form over the middle distances and also rates handily for quartet placings.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: KAY SIZE (3) & JARVIS BALE (1)

Best Place Chances: PINK BANDANNA (5) & NELLY BALE (6)

Minor Place Chances: BLOSS’ BURRA (8), ALLEN CHANG (10) & DYNA JAYDEN (9)

AD7 – 7.22pm – Free For All (515m) – $5,000

In an open race like this one the box draw is vitally important and TINASHE BALE (1) has come up with the prize red box here. She appears to be well suited from box and it will be a surprise if she does not finish in the top 4 in this. The key to this race early will be how GIRL HARDY (5) jumps, generally she is a quick beginner and on Monday she pinged and led them a merry dance. A repeat of that will see her right up there with the main chances. The strongest finisher of the field is SPRINGVALE DASH (4) and she is never far away from the winner in whatever race she contests; her career record of 29 starts for 10 wins and 13 placings is testament to that. She just missed out on another win on Monday night when she finished off the race powerfully along the rail and couldn’t quite catch the tearaway leader GIRL HARDY. A greyhound who has recently moved up in class is HUDSON BALE (3). He is capable of finding a prominent spot early in this field. He already has the scalp of SPRINGVALE DASH on his rap sheet and with the inside draw he is definitely a live chance in this. A solid place hope who would be a wise inclusion in quartets is BELLA CALABRESA (2). The good box draw will help offset the rise in class for her and she does look like a good third / fourth place chance. The greyhounds drawn outside appear to have their work cut out for them in this affair, with ARTHUR’S ROSE (8) rating as the best of them given she can finish off her races well.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: TINASHE BALE (1), SPRINGVALE DASH (4) & GIRL HARDY (5)

Best Place Chances: HUDSON BALE (3) & BELLA CALABRESA (2)

Minor Place Chance: ARTHUR’S ROSE (8)

MD8 – 7.35pm – Group 2 McKenna Memorial FINAL (595m) – $5,000

Est pool $30k

The Happy Hour finishes up on the major feature event of the night, and what a field will go to the boxes here. FLASH OF LIGHT (2) comes into the final as the fastest qualifier after pinging the lids in her heat to lead all the way in an impressive 34.43. She will have every chance of repeating that performance from the stripes. The speedy and in-form ZAMBOLA BALE (7) will trouble her early though after she equalled the first sectional of FLASH OF LIGHT last week when going 9.16 early. She also led all the way in a marginally slower time of 34.45, but the wider draw is slightly against her. The other quick heat winner was the NSW visitor SMOOTH FANCY (8) who won impressively in 34.44, but he was a few lengths slower than the other two early and will have some work to do wearing pink. He is too classy to leave out of the winning chances though, as he is a powerful greyhound ideally suited to the 595m at his second try over the trip. There are three solid each way hopes here as well – the consistent PHILBY (1) from the rails draw and the other two heat winners WHERE’S WOMBY (3), who was impressive in running home well in his heat in 34.67 and the wide running PULP (4) who also ran an impressive race to qualify in 34.53. Those six greyhounds should dominate the market and it is probably safe to play quartets without the other two runners.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: FLASH OF LIGHT (2) & ZAMBOLA BALE (7)

Best Place Chances: WHERE’S WOMBY (3) & SMOOTH FANCY (8)

Minor Place Chance: PHILBY (1)

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR – 8 JULY 2010

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with four jackpots allocated to races at Sandown Park and Hobart only this week. The Happy Hour emphasis this week is well and truly on the heats of the Group 2 McKenna Memorial to be run over the 595m for the first time. The Happy Hour starts at 6.52pm and goes through until 7.55pm taking in three of the five McKenna heats.

MD6 – 6.52pm – Group 2 McKenna Memorial Heat #3 (595m) – $5,005

Est pool $30k

The class runner of the field is the multiple Group race finalist JARVIS BALE (7). He is better known recently over longer, but the 595m trip should also suit his running style. Expect him to be up there early battling for the lead and if he does find the front he will be almost impossible to run down. One of the few greyhounds with experience over this new start point is REGAL BLAZE (6). She ran a top race as expected last week when saluting from box 8 after returning from an Albion Park campaign where she competed well. Her current form suggests that she will be up there with the main chances as she has not missed a place for 11 starts. The other runner in the field that has been in stellar form is DOHTMANN (5). She has not missed a top 4 spot in her last 12 runs and has come under notice on a number of occasions. Despite a rise in class here, she is a must inclusion as a place anchor in this. The interesting runner of the field is the NSW visitor SMOOTH FANCY (4), who is rising in distance for the first time tonight. His times and wins at Wentworth Park are special, so if he can stay the last part of this trip he could be up there giving the likes of JARVIS BALE and REGAL BLAZE something to think about. On his 500m form he does look like he should find the extra distance with no worries. The rest of the field is even with perhaps the Qld greyhound BELAIR PRINCE (8) rating next best as he has shown excellent staying potential at home, but be a little wary of him as he is slow out and having his first run at the track.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: REGAL BLAZE (6) & JARVIS BALE (7)

Each Way: SMOOTH FANCY (4)

Place Anchor: DOHTMANN (5)

MD7 – 7.11pm – Group 2 McKenna Memorial Heat #4 (595m) – $5,000

Est pool $30k

The freakish talents of OUTA CREDIT (1) will be on display here and consequently he will command most of the attention in this heat. He warmed up for this middle distance campaign with a dominant display at The Gardens over 600m where he won by 13.50 lengths at a very short quote. He would most probably prefer to be drawn off the track a little at his debut here as he does need a little room to wind up, but if he avoids any early crowding at the first turn the rest of these will be chasing tail for the rest of the race. The one greyhound that will be fancied to have a say about the anticipated dominance of OUTA CREDIT is SEEK AND DESTROY (7). He has been absolutely huge in winning his last 3 starts since stepping up in distance, including a slashing effort here in a jackpot race 2 weeks back. The only worry for him is the wide draw, but if he can stay out of significant early trouble he will be finishing the race off like a freight train. These two greyhounds are clearly the main players of this heat and will dominate the market percentage. The rest of the field look like they will be battling it out for the minor end of the quartet action. Perhaps WHERE’S WOMBY (5) rates next best if he can reproduce a run like he did 3 starts back, where he lead all of the way in a quick 34.16 over this trip. His last start placing behind REGAL BLAZE was also good enough to make him an inclusion for the minors. The rest of the field is fairly even with consistent type BARNIK BOY (3) and HEATHER’S TIGER (6), who is first up over the middle distance after a short injury break, looking the best of them. NELLY BALE (8) can be a little hard to catch, but don’t let her get under your guard either.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: OUTA CREDIT (1) & SEEK AND DESTROY (7)

Best Place Chance: WHERE’S WOMBY (5)

The next Happy Hour jackpot is on a cracker of a 461m Invitation at Hobart for a change of pace from the middle distance heats at Sandown. Whilst there may be only 2 or 3 winning hopes in those heats, this field has at least 4 of them. HIGH CHOICE (1) is one of the winning chances after he continued his consistent form with a strong-finishing second after being outpaced early in last week’s jackpot race. There’ll be a few in front of her again here, but she is too consistent to leave out of winning calculations. Evergreen chaser AKKA BOY (3) continues to chase in career-best form at Hobart and Devonport with wins at 3 of his last 5 starts and he is a must inclusion again here with his record of 8 wins and 9 seconds from 27 starts here. SULTAN’S SWING (5) pinched too much of a break on HIGH CHOICE in the jackpot race last week and managed to hold her off in the run home. That brought up a well deserved victory for her after a string of seconds. She’ll be right in this again, and the early speed battle with AKKA BOY (3) and the speedy EAGLE EYE (6) on her outside will be interesting. EAGLE EYE does have some work to do to cross the pace inside though. If they cut each other up, a strong finisher like HIGH CHOICE will come into play from the rails draw. BEIJING BOND (9 from 7) now gets a start with the scratching of the 7 and 8. He won his last 2 starts in much easier company within a couple of days last week and rates as the best of the rest. This looks a flexi race for quartet players for sure and certain.

MD9 – 7.55pm – Group 2 McKenna Memorial Heat #5 (595m) – $5,000

Est pool $30k

The very classy FLASH OF LIGHT (5) continues her Group Race campaign here and she looks extremely suited to this 595m trip at Sandown. She won easily in a quick 34.12 at her only try here in mid-May and with her early speed she will have every chance to dominate this heat from the front and really give the rest of the field something to chase. The WA-owned KAY SIZE (7), who has been a revelation at Cannington over the 642m, rugs up for his first run for new trainer Jason Thompson. He should be able to land somewhere in the front half of the field and if he displays his usual mid-race speed, he is smart enough to be finishing in the top two. The enigmatic chaser PHILBY (3) is clearly the next best in this heat. He should be sitting reasonably close early on and will be finishing this trip off strongly again, hence is a must inclusion high up in quartet calculations. Again the rest of the field is very open behind the main fancies and playing the back end of the quartet as wide as possible is the way to go. ATOMIC VOODOO (2) is a pacy type drawn well and he rates as a solid place hope should he be able to lead as he has done at 3 of his last 4 starts. The consistent SLIPAWAY MISTY (4) and the speedy ARROGANCE (6) are the better place hopes in a race where punters should play wide for the minor end of quartets.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

THURSDAY HAPPY HOUR – 1 JULY 2010

Tonight sees another Quartet Happy Hour with four jackpots allocated to races at Albion Park, Sandown Park, Elwick and Angle Park. The Happy Hour starts at 6.44pm this week and finishes up at 7.41pm.

BD7 – 6.44pm – Best 8 (710m) – $5,005

Est pool $25k

The Happy Hour kicks off on an even affair for the stayers over 710m and there look to be quite a few potential winners here. BARE ESSENTIALS (8) is the form runner of the field with wins at 2 of her last 3 starts over the trip in fair times and she will be one of the hardest to beat going on her performance from last week. GOLD SONATA (4) hasn’t run over this trip since April, but should be powering home at the end of this race which isn’t overly strong for her. Both LADY TYCOON (2) and SING HALLELUJAH (5) have been in consistent form recently with a string of placings behind BARE ESSENTIALS and they look must inclusions for quartet players. SING HALLELUJAH, in particular, was very impressive last week after almost being knocked over early. SATURN ASSASSIN (3) has had 6 runs back since a long break and has started to run into some form over the middle distances. She may be ready to get back to the form that saw her racing well over the long trip at Albion Park back in January and February and should be included at each way odds. ACE ZACE (7) won last start in slow time when she powered home late at big odds, but her prior form was nothing to write home about, so take her on trust in quartets.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Best Winning Chance: BARE ESSENTIALS (8)

Each Way Hopes: GOLD SONATA (4), SING HALLELUJAH (5) & LADY TYCOON (2)

Watch: SATURN ASSASSIN (3)

MD6 – 6.52pm – Mixed 4/5 (595m) – $5,008

Est pool $25k

Four runners here should dominate the market percentage in what looks like being a great race over the Sandown 595. REGAL BLAZE (8) returns from a campaign in the Big Dog Cup over 600m at Albion Park where she was far from disgraced. She ran home stoutly for a third in her heat after finding heaps of trouble, before a compensation victory in a Mixed 4/5 on final night. She looks well served by the draw here and just needs to keep out of trouble in the run. ATOMIC VOODOO (3) may be able to lead this field and follow up on his excellent recent form since stepping up in distance. PHILBY (5) couldn’t hold out SEEK AND DESTROY last week, but has been jumping better than expected at recent starts and may land close to the lead again in this. He should be included in the winning chances along with WHERE’S WOMBY (6) who rates as an each way hope on his 2 recent wins over this trip where he has managed to get on the bunny early. His last winning time 2 back was hot, so a repeat would see him figuring here. Those four runners should dominate this event; however it looks hard to leave any of the field out for the tail end of quartets.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winners: ATOMIC VOODOO (3), REGAL BLAZE (8) & PHILBY (5)

OD5 – 7.05pm – Invitation (461m) – $5,000

Est pool $25k

HIGH CHOICE (2) has been in excellent form recently and was most impressive when winning the jackpot race in Tassie last week from the red to take her record to 5 wins from her last 7 starts. She has an excellent draw once again and should be taking full advantage of it to run home strongly to win here, unless she finds a heap of trouble. Former WA chaser SANDHOG (3) is a clear next best in this field and should be in the firing line here for a long way, even though dropping in distance. RONRAY BOMBER (4) has won 2 of his last 3, both at Devonport, and rates fairly along with SULTAN’S SWING (7) who has run second at her last 3 starts in good company from inside draws. The field is very even behind those mentioned so playing wide for the minors may be advisable.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winner: HIGH CHOICE (2)

Clear Next Best: SANDHOG (3)

Best Place Chances: SULTAN’S SWING (7) & RONRAY BOMBER (4)

The Happy Hour winds up on the high-grade event from Angle Park which looks to have a few winning chances. GOLD (1) has won his last 2 in OK times when leading or being close to the lead early. He should be able to take advantage of the rails draw to be prominent throughout. Victorian visitor ZENITH (3) is a pacy type in the capable hands of James Ennis. He flew early at The Meadows last start (5.07 sectional) and if he could jump like that at his first look at Angle Park he’d be hard to toss. TINASHE BALE (6) has been a giant-killer at recent starts when managing to get across into handy positions from wide draws and finishing off her races well to win 3 in a row. The lack of pace in the middle boxes, combined with the pace drawn inside may see the same happen again in this affair. GIRL HARDY (2) is the other speedy type here and she led up at 3 starts in a row recently before being run down by stronger greyhounds like TINASHE BALE and KAY CEE POWER. If she led clearly and there was trouble behind her she may be able to pinch this, otherwise she looks a major hope of hanging on for a placing in quartets. The runners mentioned should dominate the market, but this looks like another race where playing wide for fourth, at least, looks the way to go though.

Quartet selections (listed in order of preference)

Winner: GOLD (1) & ZENITH (3)

Best Place Chances: TINASHE BALE (6) & GIRL HARDY (2)
